Business Intelligence Manager

Role summary

The Manager, Business Intelligence is responsible for leading the design, development and implementation of critical business intelligence initiatives and projects that will contribute to strategic decision-making across the institution.

Package

The remuneration package and other specifications for a role such as an Business Intelligence Manager may be similar to the following:

  • Salaries range from AU$115,000 to $120,000 per annum
  • Superannuation on top of this range from 9.5% to 17% depending on the university
  • HEW 10 or 10+

Primary responsibilities

Primary responsibilities may include any of the following:

  • leading the strategic design, delivery and maintenance of the business intelligence program that will support institutional priorities
  • providing vision and leadership to ensure maturation of business intelligence within the institution
  • collaboratively and extensively investigating, analysing and interpreting business information needs based on a strong understanding of business processes, drivers and priorities
  • developing and implementing governance and post-implementation evaluation over all activities to ensure outcomes achieved meet institutional objectives
  • identifying data quality issues and supporting information governance by participating in necessary activities and assisting in the development of and adherence to database and development standards
  • providing high level conceptual and technical expertise and understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence best practice.

Key selection criteria

Key selection criteria may include:

  • postgraduate qualifications in business, finance, management information systems or equivalent or extensive relevant experience
  • demonstrated strategic focus with capacity to shape and drive vision and ability to assume responsibility and accountability for advancing business intelligence objectives
  • extensive experience and comprehensive working knowledge of business intelligence and data warehouse environments including system administration, database design, dimensional modelling, security, reporting and analytics
  • outstanding interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and liaison skills, and well-developed ability to engage and negotiate with internal stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy and technical knowledge, from beginner to expert
  • extensive knowledge of business analysis, business process re-engineering and information management practices and protocols including strategic planning processes and change management principles and practices.

Desirable

The following may be considered desirable:

  • have a sound understanding of the relevant State Records Act
  • experience in contemporary business intelligence tools and techniques
  • demonstrated commitment to creating and maintaining a fair, inclusive and diverse working environment that values and utilises the contributions of all.
