From the President

It continues to be a real privilege to be part of such a vibrant and generous community.

Welcome to our latest newsletter edition, bought to you by BlueX, a powerful survey software that our valued partner, Explorance, has provided to our community. We are excited to showcase what it can offer!

I would like to start by sharing my sincere appreciation for the truly diverse, comprehensive and exciting program of events we have across our online calendar. The breadth of topics and perspectives being shared reflects both the depth of expertise within our community and the willingness of members to contribute their time. To everyone who has facilitated and/or presented in a webinAAIR session – thank you. Your generosity and openness are what make AAIR so special.

Equally, thank you to those who attend and actively participate in these sessions. The quality of discussion, the exchange of ideas, and the willingness to share experiences, are what transform these sessions into meaningful opportunities for shared learning, connection, and the strengthening of our network across Australasia.

It has also been wonderful to welcome the Social Research Centre (SRC) back to our community. We are grateful for SRC’s continued engagement, and for the valuable insights they bring to our discussions.

I am particularly pleased to see the strong interest in our newly established Data Governance Special Interest Group. It has already generated significant excitement and momentum within the community, and I look forward to seeing how this group evolves and contributes to one of the most important areas of our work.

Looking ahead, there is a growing sense of excitement for this year’s AAIR Annual Forum in New Zealand. It is shaping up to be a fantastic opportunity to connect with our Australasian peers across the ditch, to learn from one another, and to share experiences that help us tackle the local challenges we face in our own institutions. We are very grateful to Massey University for hosting the AAIR Forum, and I know many of us are looking forward not only to the rich program but also to the opportunity to reconnect socially.

I would also like to take a moment to recognise and thank two individuals who have recently stepped back from their roles with AAIR.

Headshot photo of Alexandra Simpson. She has long fair hair and wearing a white top.Firstly, thank you to Alexandra Simpson for her contribution as Social Media Coordinator.

Alex has done a wonderful job highlighting the great work of the community and bringing our events to life in creative and engaging ways.

Photo of Zaunayat Khan. He has a beard, and is wearing a light blue shirt and glasses.Secondly, thank you to Zaunayat Khan for the time and commitment given as Secretary to the Executive Committee.

Zau’s work behind the scenes has provided important support to the committee and, ultimately, to all members.

We are very grateful to you both for your contributions.

As advancements in AI continue to emerge at pace, alongside evolving expectations from those we support, there is no shortage of important topics for our community to explore. I am genuinely excited about the conversations ahead and look forward to being part of them with you.

I encourage you all to stay engaged, share your stories, support one another, and continue to contribute to this collaborative and welcoming community.

Thank you again for everything you do, and please enjoy this latest, innovative edition of the AAIR newsletter.

Warm regards
