Our Story

About

Testimonials

Photo of Life Member, Raj Sharma

AAIR is one of the oldest IR organisations in the world; only AIR (the birthplace of IR organisations) and EAIR are older. AAIR is now well-established and making a major contribution to the professional delivery of IR within the Australasian region, and has also assisted in the development of other related organisations. AAIR is also a caring organisation that has successfully assisted its members to develop and implement their IR skills within Australasian higher education institutions, through forums, workshops and the like.

I have been extremely impressed with the contribution to AAIR, particularly of recent Past Presidents, and contacts that AAIR has been able to establish, and I wish the Association continuing success in its new initiatives.

When Raj Sharma approached me in 1988 to help him establish AAIR, little did I know how much my “yes” answer would positively shape my future career. My membership of AAIR has been a thoroughly enjoyable means for professional development and forming lasting friendships locally and internationally.

As a member since AAIR’s inception, I’ve gained much professionally by actively participating in the organisation, from attending and presenting at their events, to being involved in the organisational and planning work of the executive committee. I heartily recommend that you get involved with AAIR and also contribute your own skills, expertise and experience, as AAIR can make a valuable contribution to your professional development.

AAIR has played a key role in the development of Australian workers in the field of tertiary education management and institutional research since its inception. AAIR provided a focus for people in the field to meet, to share issues and solutions, and to interact with government officers. The organisation has continued to be a source of new ideas, inspiration and professional development. The Annual Forum has also been a lot of fun.

AAIR is a fantastic network of like-minded people who work in any of the various areas that we refer to as institutional research. AAIR provides two very unique forums for these dedicated researchers, where discussing their latest initiatives in a warm, social environment characterises AAIR’s pivotal role in meeting its members’ needs.

AAIR is focussed on evidenced-based decision making which gives it a distinct status amongst tertiary education institutions. I recommend AAIR to you, and especially new comers to tertiary education. It is a great association to accelerate your professional development and meet others in similar jobs at other institutions, through its events and networks.

As an institutional research professional who was new to the field, I felt that I needed to make connections and learn more about what others were doing in the area. That is when I found AAIR, and have never looked back. Colleagues have been so generous with their time, experience and knowledge, and I have gained many friends as well. It is the best professional organisation of which I have had the privilege to be a member.
